Freed By an Angel

My Post

As we close our series on freedom, I hope you get a clue to next month here. Let’s talk about people who were freed by angels in the Bible. Though there are others than Peter, here, and sometimes angels were at work but it may not describe it, they go back to the patriarchs, so we know there were a lot of rescues, we will highlight a few.

Angels were in heaven, likely in Eden and, visited Abraham, delivered people, they were behind a lot of instances in violent and turbulent times after the fall, and even some of the fell. They got into the story of Jacob and Esau, ladders or stairs went to heaven and they descended and ascended.

Jesus, Himself, appeared as the Angel of the Lord, they shut the mouth of the lions for Daniel, it was Jesus with the friends in the fiery furnace, so you see God can command His angels and bring you freedom.

Whether or not you know it, they are at work for believers and that is why God wants us to walk in love and be obedient, we have an enemy and he would destroy our lives and testimony if he could. He will send His angels before us and He can send them to deliverance.

Now, let’s look at Peter.

Now when Herod was about to bring him out, on that very night, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries before the door were guarding the prison. And behold, an angel of the Lord stood next to him, and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him, saying, “Get up quickly.” And the chains fell off his hands. And the angel said to him, “Dress yourself and put on your sandals.” And he did so. And he said to him, “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me.” And he went out and followed him. He did not know that what was being done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision. When they had passed the first and the second guard, they came to the iron gate leading into the city. It opened for them of its own accord, and they went out and went along one street, and immediately the angel left him. When Peter came to himself, he said, “Now I am sure that the Lord has sent his angel and rescued me from the hand of Herod and from all that the Jewish people were expecting.

Acts 12:6-11

I do like this story, Peter is delivered in one of those last minute scenarios that God is famous for, you the I was ( fill in the blank ) dying, suicidal, desperate, down and out…..but God, we have all heard those testimonies haven’t we?

God showed up for Him, the gospel had to be preached and God intervened and saved Peter. And I know He has me and probably you, and we might not even know it, and some we do, and were angel involved? They could have been.

What I like is that Peter doesn’t even realize it is an angel actually there, he thought it was a vision. And yet his chains fell off. I want all ours to fall off, while we may not be prisoners, we are in a sense if we have not been truly set free in Christ.

Peter came to himself, he was probably experiencing a lot, pain from the chains, hunger or thirst, despair, exhaustion or even fear, but God came through and was freed by an angel.

Thank you for reading about freedom, you can always go back if you need to for all July posts.

Father, in Jesus name, thank you for the words you give me to express your love. I pray wisdom,  discernment for us, His peace and that the Son sets us free.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36

Enjoying His Freedom

My Post (5)

As we wrap up our month of studying freedom in Christ, I have to tell you that I am enjoying it more and more and I hope you will. We know the familiar verse of John 10:10, as believers Jesus wants us to have life and have it more abundantly. And we have an enemy that comes to steal, kill and destroy.

But he robs us more than we know, if we allow it, by not knowing his devices, not being good ground, having His word choked from us.  It doesn’t have to be something large stolen out of your home, it doesn’t have to be literally someone trying to kill you or destroy you, though that happens, it is not always the devils you see but he ones you don’t.

People will steal your joy, and Jesus is our joy. There are joy killers, even some of those you are trying to help, making ministry difficult, many people quit and I have heard of some suicides, now, that shouldn’t be, but it can happen. Day after day of life and joy, health being stolen, through ignorance of His Word or not applying it will lead you down an oppressive path. The devil enjoys oppressing you, and truthfully people do, but Jesus is our freedom. And He wants us to enjoy it in Him, and in the Spirit, where there is freedom.

I have been taught by the Holy Spirit to receive His peace and it is a gift. John 14:27, it will cover and guard our hearts and minds. Isaiah 26:3 promises to keep us in perfect peace as we focus on Him and not the problem. I know that is not always easy but it is possible the closer you draw to Him.

Believe me, it is freedom to know that He keeps His promises, even if we don’t, it is good to keep a repentant heart when we mess up. I’m not even sure He sees us a failure, He knows how human we are, He experienced all our trials and more. We have barely received the love of Jesus as He would like us to. His peace, joy and freedom.

It’s nice not to wake up and be worried, having His peace to calm you, His love. To not be thinking that you won’t make it another day, not to be consumed with how you are going to fix a problem, knowing He will fight for you if you are still. Exodus 14:14 and Psalm 46:10.

If you bathe in, drink in, soak in, the living water of the Spirit and flood  you heart and minds with verses and promises, if it is the first thing you speak instead of fear or worry, He will fill you with freedom. I have learned never to underestimate His love, no matter the trial, He has the escape. Salvation is a gift, so is grace, His peace and many others, but it is an ongoing, life long and eternal love. He saves us once, but again and again from pain, grief, fear, sickness and set us free from sin and death, Romans 8:2. Isaiah 53 shows us His suffering so that we could have eternal life.

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36

Experiencing Freedom

My Post (1)

I have to admit I never fully experience the freedom that Jesus wanted me to have. Have you? I did worry too much, pushed aside fears that would have bedeviled me, and then He began to deal with me about John 14:27 about His gift of peace.

Like any of His gifts or promises, Psalm 103 calls them benefits, and Isaiah 53 proves it, they have to be received, accepted and treasure. They are not to be exchanged like an unwanted ugly sweater, and you know, we do that when we begin to doubt, it turns to worry and even fear and unbelief. And by the way, the fearful and unbelieving are the first people put in hell.

Hebrews 3:12, says that even believers can fall into having an evil heart of unbelief. You may not lose your salvation, that used to worry me, but I think hell is for unbelievers, and He doesn’t lose people He saves but they do shortchange themselves, cut short their lives, lose the good things God has stored up for them in heaven and here on earth. And the gift of His peace, as they worry, which actually means to torment one’s own self, to choke or like going for the throat.

Like children, God watches us grow in faith. We have the freedom to walk and talk, and get into things, don’t we. We can fret and not sleep, have tantrums or be angry or we can enjoy His peace, the rest that God offered and the Israelites refused. Jesus offers and Hebrews 4 goes into detail about His eternal priesthood and why we have to  enter the rest of faith, stop striving and resisting His will. which is the good things He planned before time began.

Jesus exchanged heaven for earth, and even hell to retrieve the keys from the enemy. His life for death, righteousness for unrighteousness, being blameless for sin, He took sickness, diseases, infirmities, mental anguish, everything for us and gave us in exchange, eternal life as a believer, the promise of healing, peace, rest, angels and so much more.

He wore a crown of thorns for my peace, so yes, I am experiencing more and more freedom, when some health issues limited my driving, it was freedom to be out again, the same with the case of being at home so much because, working from there. Just going to the grocery store is a blessing. But being able to come and go as you please is not the same kind of freedom, is it?

We were all in a lot lately and even my northern friends had a lot of snow too, you can get get cabin fever after a while. And as I write this, it is in the nineties, so I like being in the air conditioning, but He is still my freedom, wherever I am and whatever I do, no matter what is going on, I have learned His freedom and to experience it more and more.

Isn’t this picture full of great imagery, golden glory and open, massive door, the still waters, hands raised in thank and freedom? I hope you have found His peace and can experience his freedom, if not please consider His love and making Jesu your Lord, He will return one day for His beloved church. Then we will experience freedom like never before.

He really meant for us to pray the Lord’s Prayer, for it to be like heaven on earth and it can be with Him, no matter what we face, we face it together. For a long time, I carried Jesus in my heart as crucified, but He is risen and that is freedom, the kind He wants us to know.

I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. John 14:27 NLT

For the Lord is Spirit, but where the Spirit is there liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17.

We want to live here,

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36

Holy Freedom

my-post-1-3Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that He opened for us through the curtain, that is, through His flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. Hebrews 10:19-25

Not only brothers, but sisters, we have access to the holy places, and holy freedom, by the precious blood of Jesus. We have access to the Father and can come boldly because He gave His life, the curtain or veil of the temple was rent the Bible says, torn in half, it was four inches thick, at His death. His flesh represents the curtain and Jesus was torn on the cross.

His mental state, emotional state and even bodily. As a man He wrestled the flesh, as God, He wrestled against all the evil and spiritual powers, He could have called angels, but freely gave His life for us to receive salvation and its benefits if we would believe, and one is holy freedom.

No one, but the High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies and even he had to have a rope tied around his ankle in case he was found to have sin and died. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice and is now our High Priest forever, and because of His blood we can enter the holy places in prayer, in the Spirit, in His great mercy and love.

He is our full and blessed assurance, the one who is faithful and true, and our consciences have been sprinkled with the blood of Christ, for He made us free from sin, it is the enemy who tries to get us into thinking about what we are forgiven of, don’t go back to be a willing sinner or use grace as a cover for sin. God knows hearts and does not take kindly to the blood of His Son being disgraced.

It always feels good to bathe and be clean, smell of nice soap and perfume, but He has washed our bodies with the Spirit, the living water, from inside out, and it is purifying. We are sweet smelling to God as we walk in the Spirit and obey, and we are to hold fast that profession, our hope, and to encourage each other and to get together. We have to stir each other up, in our holy faith, and holy freedom, for the day of the Lord is at hand.

Freedom In Christ

My Post (2)

What is freedom in Christ? What is it not? We have answered a lot of questions about freedom, but it never hurts to take another look at what we have been blessed with as believers. Freedom in Christ, is in the Holy Spirit.

As as believer we receive the Holy Spirit or a measure of Him and His presence at salvation. As we grow in faith and grace, we are suppose to become more and more aware of Him and the freedom He allows us, not to do just anything we want, but the love, joy and peace that comes with doing what He wants us to do.

The Holy Spirit is with us to comfort us, and He even prays for us. Romans 8:26, there are many spiritual gifts he will gift us with as He sees fit, when God sees our hearts and gives us wisdom and discernment. There is the Spirit in us already, at the time we are born again, and also a subsequent baptism of the Spirit, evidenced by speaking in tongues. People visited had not even heard of the Holy Spirit, only John’s baptism, but they received Him.

What freedom in Christ is — It is in the Spirit.

For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2

Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God. 1 Corinthians 2:12

For the Lord is Spirit, but where the Spirit is there liberty. 2 Corinthians 3:17.

What freedom in Christ is — It is in the gift and sacrifice of the Son.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not also with Him freely give us all things? Romans 8:32

If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free. John 8:32

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36

Yet God, in His grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins. Romans 3:24

What freedom in Christ is not — It is not doing as you please but what pleases the Father.

Even that question came up only because of some so-called believers there—false ones, really—who were secretly brought in. They sneaked in to spy on us and take away the freedom we have in Christ Jesus. They wanted to enslave us and force us to follow their Jewish regulations. Galatians 4:2 NLT

For freedom Christ has set us free; stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery. Galatians 5:1

For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. Galatians 5:13

“You have died with Christ, and He has set you free from the spiritual powers of this world. So why do you keep on following the rules of the world?” Colossians 2:20

Only in this way  ( His death on the cross. ) could He set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying. Hebrews 2:15

But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it. James 1:25

So whatever you say or whatever you do, remember that you will be judged by the law that sets you free. James 2:12

Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God. 1 Peter 2:16

Freedom in Christ is like breaking free of a cocoon and becoming a butterfly, we  are are new creations in Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:17, it takes grace to overcome but He will help us, He grace upon grace, John 1:16, and the Message Bible says gift upon gift.

Being free in Christ is not just a once in a lifetime event, like salvation, it is ongoing. But we know what freedom is and isn’t . And we definitely desire His freedom as a believer, and for the Son to set us free, free indeed.

Father, in Jesus name, I pray for my readers to experience your freedom like never before, and to receive your peace, and to seek your rest of faith, that they may be free indeed.

Filled With Freedom

My Post (3)

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. Romans 15:13

While we are learning about the Spirit, and freedom in the Spirit, we have to remember the many references  to being filled with the Spirit, which we could easily drew the phrase filled with freedom from.

Even Jesus went away to the quiet places to rest, if the Lord had to be ministered to by angels and refreshed in the Spirit, why would we not have to be? He walked in the Spirit without measure, while all believers have a measure of the Spirit at salvation, there is the subsequent baptism of the Spirit and gifts Jesus offers. Most people may  not even walk in the measure of authority that He has already given them, and He would offer more and His rest, His peace, and an abundance of joy.

So let’s look at some of the people that were filled with the Spirit and I pray, He fills us and refreshes with freedom daily. Jesus felt the dunamis power or virtue leave Him as He healed the woman with the issue of blood, the Spirit or really, life, went into her and yet, he could turn around and raise a girl from the dead. That is power, and peace.

I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft. Exodus 31 – Bezalel

And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness, Luke 4:1

Then Jesus returned to Galilee, filled with the Holy Spirit’s power. Reports about him spread quickly through the whole region. Luke 4:14

The Son was sent to speak God’s message, and he has been given the full power of God’s Spirit John 3:34

It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life. John 6:63

And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4

Exalted, then, to the right hand of God, He has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. Acts 2:33

After they had prayed, their meeting place was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly. Acts 4:31

Therefore, brothers, pick out from among you seven men of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint to this. Acts 6:3

But he, full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. Acts 7:55

Barnabas was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and strong in faith. And many people were brought to the Lord. Acts 11:24

And the disciples were continually filled with joy and with the Holy Spirit. Acts 13:52

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit…..Ephesians 1:13

There are different gifts, but the same Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:4

These are but a few of the Scriptures about the Spirit, it is a much deeper study. We are to be continually filled and we should ask to be. Paul, after his conversion, became bold and full of the Spirit, Peter spoke boldly by the Spirit, even Zacharias after the birth of John became filled with the Spirit and prophesied. Prophesy is a spiritual gift. And as for choosing leaders, many are perhaps  chosen, not being full of the Spirit and that leads to division and strife.

I included a verse from Exodus, to show how God calls and gives gifts, but then the Spirit only came upon people, now, He is in the hearts of believers, as the Son sets us free, and He is filling us with freedom.

Freedom In Stillness

My Post (8)

I read a post from a fellow blogger, it said to stand in freedom knowing the battle is the Lord’s. While we often hear to stand with our armor on and even she suggests that we are to stand and not give in, not to sit down. I have to say that I have found His rest most helpful, in fact, I still get things done and He is doing work on my behalf as I rest.

It is hard stand all the time, while we are not being lazy but aware of our spiritual battles, we can rest and be still in these verses.

The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still. Exodus 14:14

Other translations will say be silent, keep calm or even hold your peace. Moses said this to the people, and that was true, the Red Sea closed over their pursuers. I have had the Lord deal with me about His peace as gift. John 14:27. Sometimes, in order to hold onto that gift we have to hold or peace or be still, even as we stand in faith..

I have always though that the armor I was wearing had chinks or cracks, but then i decided the armor we are wearing is like King Saul’s, it is the Holy Spirit, the armor of the Hing of Kings, and while we put it on, it can be too heavy in a sense, why we stand as best we can and He fights for as we are still, the battle belongs to the Lord.

And then we have the beloved Psalm 46:10 and we see that being still lets know God. He desires a person and intimate relationship with us. If you look up the Hebrew for still, it does have to do with healing, there are many words, loosen, draw, even weaken and that He will not leave you. The basic translation will be to cease.

Cease your worrying, cease tour fears, cease the arguments, the doubt, unbelief, anything that hinders you from receiving His promise or healing. Silence and be gold and a breakthrough as we rest and believe, even while standing.

We do have to cease from our striving, learn to rest in Him, the Israelites would not in Isaiah 26. Jesus offers us rest and Hebrews 4 takes it further. Jesus sought the quiet places, if He had to why wouldn’t we as followers?

You may have seen people overtaking in the Spirit, with just a breath or the slightest touch, they are out as they are prayed for. The Spirit prays for us and discerns, Romans 8:26, He knows what we need when we don’t and offers us freedom in stillness, even if we are standing for something, that is how to stand.

Give Freely

My Post (4)

Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received! Matthew 10:8

That’s a powerful statement to the disciples isn’t it? And I realize Jesus said people would know His disciples, but we are not like the disciples who were with Him, we are sons and daughters of the Most High God as believers.

The disciples operated in gifts and yet, could not cast out devils,  Jesus said that some needed to come out by prayer and fasting and personally, I think some actually just take Him, and He moves our mountains for us as we pray. He is the rock we speak to and not strike as Moses did in disobedience.

I try to not question or be disrespectful, while I may not actually be a Bible scholar, I do know it, but I am smart enough to realize that I don’t know everything and He does. I have seen miracles, a baby who should be wearing a bag, going home in diapers, lots of healing babies, and some born that could have not survived the full term.

I have seen bones healed instantly, and in two weeks instead of six. And some cases are still a work in progress, like backs and spines, head injuries, and the recovery from depression and oppression. Wherever you are on your journey to heaven you can pray for the sick, and do it even if you are not healed yet, even if I were never to be and I have been of so many things, I want to be loving and graceful enough not to get into the ” Why me? ” mode and just pray for His goodness and mercy to overtake people.

Have I seen people raised from the dead? Yes, and no. I have seen so many people come so close, that technically, they were. I have been close myself and recovered through prayer, even being born, leprosy is treatable now as are many things and yet it is still He who heals, with medication, surgery and miraculously.

In prayer, we are giving freely. We can also do that with our time or talents, and anointings. The workman is still worthy or his labor though, naturally, doctors are going to get paid, but people are not always happy that ministers do, but people contributed to Jesus ministry. No one has or ever will buy a miracle or their way to heaven, and salvation is a gift, you will never earn it, it has to be received.

And the same is true of healing, many people are still not receptive, out of not realizing it is a promise to believers, thinking it has been done away with, or that they are not worthy. Only being a believer in Him does that, He makes us worthy. read Isaiah 53 and healing verses, sow them into your heart. renew your mind, even Jesus had to rest and refresh.

As for demons, they exist, and a lot of times they are just smaller ones, with rulers or powers over them, like cities, states or country. Anger can be a demon when it our of control, bitterness, strife, some diseases, they are also connected to drug use and other sin, rebellion and witchcraft, false doctrines.

A lot of things truly are demons with a name. But Jesus gives us power over them and they will not hurt us, but not everybody operates in those gifts and you have to rely on the Spirit, that can get you hurt if they do not recognize you as having it.

I believe we will see miracles in the days before His return, and that it is important to pray for God’s will to be done, and not doubt that it is something good, He told the leper He was willing, he doesn’t change. He is, however, merciful, sometimes people have just passed a point of even having the will or strength to recover, and He gives every sinner a chance to repent.

I have learned to pray from victory and rest. ” Thank you Lord, for healing me on the cross. For loving me and deliver me from evil. ” Don’t pray negative or vengeful prayers for Him to make someone do something, just thank Him for His sacrifice, ask Him to show His love to them, and if they refuse, at least you have prayed.

It is not always that prayers are not answered but sometimes, they are prayed amiss, they are not received, they are on their way, are for a better time. God is not saying no, He’s waiting for us to be in agreement with Him. And He is love pure and simple, full of mercy and grace, but are we? And willing to accept that we may not understand why some are healed and others are not, the same is true of salvation.

Believe me, you can be healed head to toe in the name of Jesus, receive it.

Receive your peace, receive your healing, receive your deliverance and miracle. He is freely giving, will you freely receive? And freely give to others as freely as you were given.

Freedom In The Most High

My Post (5)

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1 World English Bible

I grew up memorizing this from the King James, but as I became more mature and grew in grace, I read other translations. I also heard how that it was wrong, things were added or taken out, or that it was written for people you were unable to understand it. I like to compare them, there may be differences, but I have found nothing to substantiate that they are wrong.

While Psalm 91 in the KJV and ESV, do not specifically use the word freedom, it is in the psalm nonetheless, as we live, abide or even dwell in the shadow of the Most High. I chose this version for the word ” resting ” in His shadow. And we know that is the shadow from the Ark of the Covenant, the cherubs on the Mercy Seat.

The shadow was cast on the tent as it was moved after the temple was destroyed. Worship went on day and night. And no doubt with campfires burning, and the moon and stars shining, the outstretched wings of the cherubim cast a long shadow over the camp. Just as Jesus reached out for us on the cross and now resides in the heart of believers as on the Mercy Seat.

What I would like for us to do is read several translations, and I will go over some of it and show you freedom in this Psalm, I also wrote about resting in it, and I had not notice that translation, rest is no just physical rest but spiritual, you know you are safe in Him, so fear and worry do not make strongholds in our hearts and minds.

We know we live in a fallen world and things happen but in Him, we find freedom. https://biblehub.com/gnt/psalms/91.htm

Whoever goes to the LORD for safety,

whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty.

We are free from —

all hidden dangers

and from all deadly diseases.

any dangers at night

or sudden attacks during the day

the plagues that strike in the dark

or the evils that kill in daylight.

No disaster will strike you,

no violence will come near your home.

Angels keep you from hurting your feet on the stones.

You will trample down lions and snakes,

fierce lions and poisonous snakes.

And then of course, as we love Him and call on Him He saves us, not just the first time but from whatever we need saving from, and He wants us to have a long and full life and save us completely, taking us into eternal life.

While many things we may know about, dangers, etc., what about the ones we don’t know about, we may see storm warnings , and sometimes even receive spiritual warnings but are we always receptive.

I am glad angels are as this translation say keeps our feet from hurting, why they should be shod with gospel of peace, I know I have had some serious falls, but obviously, they could have been worse, angels are always on high alert.

And the snakes, scorpions, lions, all the evil things the enemy sends are in the spiritual and prayer, angels, communion with Him, the name of Jesus, He is protecting us, but first we have to know Him and receive Him as Lord, and then decide to live in the secret place, the shadow of the Most High, and there is freedom there.
