Falling All Over Again

My Post (6) 1.png

We have a few more days until November settles in on us, and we are still falling in love with Jesus all over again. We are all in need of that love, we should desire it above all else. We should aspire to it and to inspire others. But like the autumn leaves, we sometimes fall ourselves, perhaps we wither, get raked or blown away.

This isn’t God’s plan for us, whatever season we are in. He had good plans Jeremiah says, have we been tossed aside like so many fallen leaves or even on the burn pile? Surely, not. Though God refines us in our fiery trials, He makes use of them. He allows us to grow in grace through them, He is not employing the enemy of our souls to destroy us.

Do you feel withered? Add the water of His Spirit. Are you golden with His glory? Good for you! Or are you auburn? Red and on fire for Him, praying, ministering grace to others, That’s great. Autumn is said to be like a second spring, the leaves like flowers or roses.

Personally, I love spring. It is a season of refreshing and renewal. It is not so hot, blazing like the summer sun or cold like winters, maybe not mine but elsewhere. So why can’t fall be a time of refreshing and renewal? I once declared the holidays a season of rest, though I love them, it isn’t necessary to run yourself down so as not to enjoy them.

Autumn can be our spring and a time to fall in love again. To fall all over for Jesus, who never stops loving us. Like falling leaves of grace He will send the autumn rains of His Spirit across the mild and lightly winded days to our hearts. His fragrant love brews in our spirits, and warms us like hot cocoa or the butter melting on cinnamon toast.

He wraps us in His arms like our favorite throw, a warm blanket, is as comfortable as an old pair of slippers. But we can never be complacent about Him, never take Him for granted His love is far too precious. He is much too generous with it toward us, and we never deserved it but He thinks so if we choose to love Him. He really chose us.

We could even sit with Him at the fireplace, snuggled up with a good book, His Good Book, read the psalms that about to bring us into thanksgiving or glean wisdom from the book of John which is all about His love and Kingship.  whatever the fall has in store, may you find some rest in His love and peace.

And unlike the changing season, the four seasons and the many seasons of our lives and the spiritual realm, He never changes, His love never changes, he is the same, yesterday, today and forever, and will never leave or forsake us. Hebrews 13:8 and Deuteronomy 31:6, and again in Hebrews 13:5.

Spring is spring and autumn may be like a second one, so go ahead and fall in love with Jesus all over again.

  1. I am with you, Rebecca. I am much more in love with spring than fall, although I do love fall colors. I have often said that September seems like the beginning of a new year for me. Maybe it is because of all those years I spent as a teacher. It does seem like a time of renewal and new beginnings, even though nature is getting ready to go to sleep for the winter.

  2. October is a hard time for us for in the fall of 2011 we first began our journey of faith through homelessness. We are glad for the trials for He has refined us through them. Typically October doesn’t bother us too much but this fall has been different. There has been a shift in the spirit and we are seeing unprecedented attacks by satan this month. He won’t win but he is certainly on the warpath. Thankfully our God has got everything under control and this new year will be good. As God shakes the complacency out of His people we pray many accept His fiery trials as the blessing of refinement they are.
