God hates liars, right? Yes, He does hate lying, the sin but He still loves the sinner and desires to bring him or her to salvation. He does hate for Christians to lie, they should know better, but it happens, some are even lying about being a Christian. People will do that. Some will identify with believers simply not being Jewish or Muslim.
Abraham was under grace before the Ten Commandments, he walked with God, he lied about Sarah being his wife, saying she was his sister. And he was trying to protect her from Pharaoh, she ended up there anyway, his lie was discovered and after the dream, he was released and even blessed, God forgave the lie.
Sarah lied to the Angel of the Lord, Jesus, Himself, when he and two angels visited the tent. He told Abraham she would have a son, she laughed inside the tent, then denied it to Him, He didn’t see it as much of a sin as embarrassment. And she he had Isaac.
When God changed their names, they were first, Abram and Sarai, Sarah was now calling him Abraham, ” father of man nations ” as was he. People must have thought they were kooky, just like many now, when you start speaking or praying in faith. But they were obeying God, and including Ishmael, whom God also blessed though he was wild, Abraham is the father of many, like the stars, God said.
Let’s talk about the ” calling things that are not as though they were “, it is still in reference to faith and the promise to his descendants —
That is why it depends on faith, in order that the promise may rest on grace and be guaranteed to all his offspring—not only to the adherent of the law but also to the one who shares the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all, as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”—in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist. Romans 4:16,17
Faith is about believing and speaking in His presence. God called out the light. He called out creation. Psalm 33 says He breathed and the stars were born. Faith is believing what we don’t see, yet and it pleases God. Hebrews 11:1&6. So is God lying? Of course not. He is not a man who can lie, He is a Spirit. And He calls things into existence that do not exist. Does this always work> Faith works by love. Not everyone will receive, but done, in faith, hope and love, God moves, sometimes in His own time.
God is not a man, so He does not lie. He is not human, so He does not change his mind. Has He ever spoken and failed to act? Has He ever promised and not carried it through? Numbers 29:13 NLT
Now, look at the enemy.
You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks out of his own character, for he is a liar and the father of lies. John 8:44
And the Holy Spirit…..
When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come. John 16:13
Jesus said He even spoke what the Father said, so if we are doing that, calling it to be in faith, hope and the main one, love. You are not lying, you don’t have to share with everyone either, some people will not get and say your are. But does God think so, no, not all, He understands.
Jesus as the Angel of the Lord, calls Gideon, a mighty man of valor and he is astonished. You can picture his response,” Who me? I am from the weakest people…..” You do better to say what God says about you. You have a choice to repeat the enemies lies, that you won’t make it ,really don’t believe God do you? And so on. Or speak what God says over you, through His Word and promises, perhaps a prophetic word, or a rhema, personally, to you spirit from the Spirit.
Read who you are in Christ, what being saved is all about, a new life in Him. We need not forget the benefits of salvation, Psalm 103, and the Holy Spirit will discern truth from lies, because He is the Spirit of Truth. And remember what happened to Ananias and Sapphire when they lied to the Spirit talking to Peter, God allowed their deaths.
So what is the difference? They were doing this on their own. No one asked for them to give it all, they were doing it to be seen. Ananias could have just given an offering, but he insisted it was all he had gotten for the land, and he was dead. Sapphira is a sad story, in league with her husband’s lie, shows up three hours later. She had time to think it over and Peter even offers her a chance, she lies and pays for it.
In short, you can’t lie to God, He sees and knows all. But look at the devil, he added a not to God’s instruction that they would surely die eating forbidden fruit. And better still he leaves out, the word beloved to Jesus as He is tempted. Why remind Him the father called Him that? And He does us as well. So get behind us and stay there, believers don’t need you and your pesky lies.
All liars will have their part in the lake of fire, those who have not believed in Jesus. Maybe, you said you liked something you didn’t not to hurt someone, a white lie? Do you brag, exaggerate or embellish the truth. Not a good a idea, but He gets it, it happens but let’s brag on Him instead, and call ourselves what He says we are even in the world now, we should be like Him.
Have you ever seen someone do something or say something and they deny it? Or even when caught? There are habitual liars and narcissists, people who tell one lie to cover another until they don’t even know the truth, and that is bad because as we studied in July, He sets you free. John 8:32
