Bushel And A Peck

I chose a bushel of peaches being from Georgia. While others love you to the moon and back, a southern mother saying is I love you, a bushel and a peck and hug around the neck, meaning a kiss on the cheek. I used to tell the little boys and girls I kept, ” I love you this much. ” I would start with just an inch or so, and they would laugh as I made it a bigger amount until I had open arms to embrace them.Β  Older mothers, can remember the Doris Day song.

We can just study on light let’s talk about what Jesus says about light, and work it a bushel, and He does love us that much.

You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a basket. Instead, they set it on a stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. Matthew 5:14-16

Jesus does not want our light to be hidden away, He wants the world to see it. I may not have always shone the way He wanted me to, but He had blessed me to shine still. He had it all set in His beautiful time. Many people shy away from public speaking, but the Spirit will give you the words to say, many feel unworthy, Jesus makes you worthy. others let fear rule instead of His love, but that extreme fear is a lie from the enemy, not caution or concern, but fear, torment and terror.

So we are the light of the world, even salt and light. We should be a lamp shining on a stand instead of hidden under a basket, there will be times He may keep your light hidden from the enemy, and our new life is hidden in Him, but He wants our hope in Him so we can shine and never be ashamed.

As for a peck, it is a fourth of a bushel, like a quart would be a fourth of a gallon. Just a figure of speech or and a unit of measurement. God’s love is eternal, without limits or measure, it is we who often limit Him.Β  His love is everlasting, but He expects to be obeyed.

I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore I have continued my faithfulness to you. Jeremiah 31:3

If you love me, you will keep my commandments. John 14:15 / To love God and one another.

If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word. My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. John 14:23

We should also remember the parable of the virgins and not let the oil of the Spirit run out of our lamps. We can be filled again and again, and remain in love and in His rest until the beloved comes. He loves us more than our mothers and I can’t wait to hug Him, may the Holy Spirit hug you today in a tender embrace, and kiss you with His peace.

I love those who love me, and those who seek me early shall find me. He loves you more than a bushel or a peck.
