Rise And Shine!

Rise and shine… ( and give God the glory, glory, children of the Lord. )

This is what I still remember my mother saying, but you know what? It is Biblical. While it may be a children’s song and nice to wake up to, there is a lot of Scripture. to back it up. We know God called forth light in Genesis and separated light from darkness. And it is metaphorical for good and evil as well, Psalm 139:12, says that even darkness is not darkness because He is the light, Jesus came to shine. So let’s look at a few verses, we will start with Isaiah.

Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who turn darkness to light and light to darkness, who replace bitter with sweet and sweet with bitter. Isaiah 5:20

Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. ( concerning sharing )

Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body is full of darkness. Be careful, then, that the light within you is not darkness. So if your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, you will be radiant, as though a lamp were shining on you. Luke 1:34-36

In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. John 1:4

Awake you, the one sleeping, and rise up out from the dead, and Christ will shine upon you. Ephesians 5:14

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:6

Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life. 1 John 1:6

There may be many more verses on light, but these will get you started if you care to do a study, and remember, He wants us to rise and shine, my mother also likes to say, ” Shine, don’t whine. ”
