Well, Hush My Mouth!

My Post (1)

I just had to do this one ladies! Even as a grown woman, I get the look that means hush. Southern people do say this or shut my mouth, but it is more feminine and ladylike to say hush. Southerners are big on manners even if they aren’t always paying attention to what they say.

In the Bible, the first thing we think of or at least me, is about this the Lord shutting the mouth of the lion’s in the den when Darius tossed Daniel in. A lot of people may think he went right to sleep and not worried, but he was human and even though that truly could have happened, no doubt, he was concerned and of course, the next morning, they were surprised to see him.

I do want to give a few verses on hushing up, but while God shut those lion’s mouths, did He also help Jesus keep His shut? We read how He opened not His mouth He was human and took more abuse than anyone, He decided to do God’s will to save us, but I think the love and possible the Spirit helped Him not to say a word, even being beaten so brutally and crucified, as opposed to Zacharias, who refused to believe the angel’s message of the birth of John. He was made mute in order to fulfill the prophecy, Jesus made His choice. One that always amazes me. He trusted God totally, that is pure love.

So let’s look at some Scripture and realize that Ecclesiastes 3 is right, there is a time to speak, and one to be silent, or hush your mouth.

I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Psalm 34:1

for I speak the truth and detest every kind of deception. Proverbs 8:7 NLT

The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. Proverbs 10:11

A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver. Proverbs 25:11

The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters; the fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook. Proverbs 18:4 ( or woman )

He who loves a pure heart and gracious lips will have the king for a friend. Proverbs 22:11

The calm words of the wise are heeded over the shouts of a ruler among fools. Ecclesiastes 9:17

But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not. Isaiah 31:21

He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet He opened not His mouth;
like a lamb that is led to the slaughter,
and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent,
so He opened not His mouth. Isaiah 53:7

“I create the fruit of the lips: Peace, peace to him who is far off and to him who is near,” Says the LORD, “And I will heal him.” Isaiah 57:19

Then the LORD stretched out His hand and touched my mouth, and the LORD said to me, “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. Jeremiah 1:9

When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, LORD God Almighty. Jeremiah 15:16

This people honors Me with the lips, but their heart is kept far away from Me. Matthew 15:8

But what comes out of the mouth proceeds from the heart, and this defiles a person. Matthew 15:18

And He did not answer him with regard to even a single charge, so that the governor was quite amazed. Matthew 27:14

The word is near you, in your mouth, and in your heart. Romans 10:8, 9 and 10 tells tells how to be saved. Believe with your heart, confess with your mouth.

Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear. Ephesians 4:29

And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. James 3:6 Read the whole chapter.

If only you would remain silent; for that would be your wisdom! Job 13:5

Be still ( or silent ) and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10

Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouths shut, they seem intelligent. Proverbs 17:29

And the effect of righteousness will be peace, and the result of righteousness, quietness and trust forever. Isaiah 32:17

Therefore the prudent shall keep silence in that time; for it is an evil time. Amos 5:13

There are so many more and Jesus would go away and rest in the lonely or silent places, and invited the disciples to go and us a as well, it will give us time to watch what we say and when, and to hush our mouths, or praise Him.
