The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit. John 3:8
This is such a beautiful verse about the Holy Spirit isn’t it? Nicodemus has come to question Jesus at night, because was a Pharisee and a ruler of the Jews, ask a silly question, get a parable, Jesus is like that, we have to study and seek the meaning, and His Spirit teaches us.
Basically, He is telling Him about being born again, we really don’t understand how God creates even with all the scientific and medical knowledge. And we don’t have the omniscience to see the spiritual recreation taking place in hearts or souls, we get glimpse of the spiritual, in dreams or visions, and those who operate in spiritual gifts, but that is only as the Spirit sees fit.
Like the wind that we don’t see, only feel, the gentle breeze on our face or the powerful gust, the Spirit goes and does what He wants, when He wants but remember, He is not speaking for Himself but only what He hears, Jesus or sometimes, the Father say for Him to repeat.
His Spirit speaks to ours, and yes, I know of people hearing audible voices and no they are not crazy, they may be told to do something unusual like to anoint someone or not go somewhere but they are not driven by demonic voices. Most of the time, it is a knowing, though I don’t see Him as a conscience, the blood covers that, people like me tend to over repent, it is more inspiration, encouragement and comfort, you may sense His presence longing for you to rest in Him, does He or has He held you close?
If you have not experienced His love to that degree I pray you do, may the wind of the Spirit embrace you today. He is powerful and gentle, and will not force His love or will on you, you have to choose to receive the Lord as savior, then you have a measure of the Spirit, but He will teach you, guide you and give you spiritual gifts as you grown in grace.
Here are a couple of other verses about the wind.
The LORD does all that pleases Him in the heavens and on the earth, in the seas and in all their depths. He causes the clouds to rise from the ends of the earth. He generates the lightning with the rain and brings forth the wind from His storehouses. Psalm 135:7
The wind blows southward, then turns northward; round and round it swirls, ever returning on its course. Ecclesiastes 1:6
And from the NLT,
He decided how hard the winds should blow and how much rain should fall. Job 28:25
I have needed His strength and power, He goes and does as He pleases, and I won’t limit the seeds sown by my words of love giving Him the glory and I love His tenderness, the gentle wind that cools me on a warm day, when the wind blows.
