The Rest Of My Life

I had no idea what real rest was like. I had been given a gift, I didn’t even know about. And yet. I did. I would often say that if I could only sleep and not be in a coma or something, I realized that I needed deep recuperative sleep. Even as a Christian, I had not found it, until I prayed and really studied more.

God offered His Sabbath rest in Isaiah, and even said there was a place of repose, but they would not listen. I like to call these people ” The Would Nots “.  There are lots of them in the Bible, they would not be comforted, would not follow Jesus any longer. The would nots, are people who absolutely refuse something, whether a gift, or an instruction.

That is why Hebrews 4, tells us not to fall into that pattern of disobedience. But have we by not understanding rest? In some cases, yes. But other times, it can be a lot of spiritual warfare that would wear out the saints, that is why we have to depend on the Spirit to discern, we have to recognize the attempts, that are made to take our rest in the Lord, our peace and joy, even our love.

It is hard to love the right way if you are exhausted, it is easy for tempers to flare and arguments to start. But I want you to enjoy the rest of your life, and I do mean rest, when you begin to see that Jesus has already finished His work and sat down at the right hand of the Father, you will find it easier to believe what a price He paid for you soul, and that He wants you in His rest so that you can be the person He wants you to be in His grace.

Having spiritual gifts or operating in them, is a key to rest. However, not all believers are experienced in them, or have gifts and are not using them to the fullest. Do you have a prayer language? The Spirit can and will give you one and it is a powerful gift that once received has to be used, as often as needed. But even prophecies and gifts will not always bring you rest, you have to receive and not refuse the rest, He may have already provided you. I don’t mean that they won’t, but is still a choice, you have the ability to choose rest. Or lose rest.

God was angry When His rest was refused. But Jesus offers it in Matthew 11:28, and Hebrews 4 expounds on it. Remember the people He turns away, saying He never knew them, we don’t want that. He desires us to know Him and He knows every detail about us, including when and how we need to rest, sometimes it is a nap, or just reading, sitting quietly. Other times a change of scenery, go outside, get off the laptop or phone.

Others, it will be that deep, heavenly peace, that is the sleep of the beloved from Psalm 127. I can do that even two hours or twelve and still get things done. Here are some great verses to get you started on the rest of your life.

He who said to them, “Here is rest, give rest to the weary,”
And, “Here is repose,” but they would not listen. Isaiah 28:12  The Would Nots

Those who enter His rest…

My presence will go with you, and I will give you rest. Exodus 33:14

In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety. Psalm 4:8

Truly my soul finds rest in God, my salvation comes from Him. Psalm 62:1

Return to your rest, O my soul, For the Lord has dealt bountifully with you. Psalm 116:7

This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it. Psalm 132:14

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened ( heavy laden ) , and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from His. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience. Hebrews 4:9,10,11
