I’m not going to get through this series without the idea of a restored soul. Isn’t that real Soul Care? Psalm 23 is is such a wonderful lesson for us all. I will put it here to read and we will go over it.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for His name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
First of all when Jesus is Lord of our lives, He is in control, the Good Shepherd who gave His life, we shall not want. Now, this has to do with lack, we are not lacking anything really with Him if we do as He says, the Holy Spirit is there to teach, there are spiritual gives, he gives wisdom, is our provider. We should want what He wants for us which is the best, and follow the Shepherd to get there.
He makes us, and I had to reread that, ” makes us ” to lie down in green pastures. He has to take that staff and prod, even force us in to the safety of the fold and even His rest. Not the cruel shepherd who will break a lamb’s leg, I’m sounding like the Amplified Bible here, with my definitions, makes, insists, demands, expects, requires is a good word. And He is not hurting us or causing us problems. We have an enemy who does that.
He leads us besides still waters, a walk on the shores with Him, calms the storms with His peace, His gift to us. And He restores our souls…see how He is doing it. Take hold of this beautiful Psalm and walk in it, revel in it and be restored by and in it.
He leads us in righteousness for He made us righteousness, and it is because of His name and His sacrifice. Righteousness draws enemy fire, but He guides our steps, and even though we walk through the shadow of death we will not fear. Righteousness also keeps the enemy at bay, why there is no fear in love, perfect love or mature love, 1 John 4:8, walking in His love, keeps it our. His love should be ours and when fear, terror and torment comes, no weapon will prosper. Isaiah 54:17. Confess His righteousness and we are through Him, activates that, I wish I knew sooner.
He is with us with the rod, the correction rod of His word, not the beatings that Proverbs declares is for the fools back. Jesus took the punishment for fools who had gone astray, are we to toss away such grace? If we do there is ho hope or redemption, what a waste for souls who don’t know Him, for believers who don’t understand Him or never get to know Him in a personal relationship. He sent us the Comforter. John 15;16
He prepares us a feast at a table even in the midst of the enemies, the wolves that terrorize the flock, we are safe, surrounded by His presence, the enemies see how that we are cared for and shielded. He anoints our heads with the oil of the Spirit and we overflow with His love, joy and peace forever, for His goodness and mercy are behind us, beside us and all around, whether they are actual angels or simply His goodness and grace.
We will be with Him forever for give us abundant and eternal life and sometimes our souls wander, like sheep, we can go astray, but true believers will always seek the Shepherd’s voice and hear it, follow it, and be safe, restored by the Lord. He restores our souls as we remain in His words and they in us.
