I could not help writing about His kiss of peace. Which I do believe is actually the Holy Spirit, and just how we speak to each other, as believers, like the Jewish, shalom. That is much more than hello or goodbye, it literally means, ” How is you peace? ” So, I ask you, how is your peace today?
I can tell you mine is tov, good, todah rabah, thank you very much. Those of you who have read my blog on occasion may remember my saying how the Lord has laid His peace on my heart. One that was heavy laden and needed rest.
Jesus taught peace, He told the disciples to speak peace. His gospel is peace. And I believe that we should greet each other with the holy kiss, not necessarily a literal kiss, we all have our Judases, not those phony air kisses, but the kiss of His peace.
Greet one another with the kiss of peace. All of God’s people send you their greetings. 2 Corinthians 13:12, Good News, other versions say sacred or holy kiss, and the verse before tells us to encourage each other, be of one mind and live in peace. That is not always possible is it?
Romans 16:16, and 1Thessalonians 5:26 also uses holy kiss as a greeting. I know there are a lot of kissy people but I don’t think that is what He means, I know, personally, I am not going to kiss just any and everyone. Neither, did the Spirit. The disciples were there in one mind and one accord. And as I said we are to live as peaceably as possible, not everyone wants peace, even the world’s peace, much less, His peace. Romans 12:18.
Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and ye perish in the way, though His anger burn but a little. Blessed are all who have their trust in Him. Psalm 2:12, our words and praises are a kiss to the Lord, His Spirit, the gift of tongues or just loving Him throughout the day.
You kiss your children. Hopefully, you kiss your spouse, more than goodbye and off to work. We all desire love, but God’s agape is so far above natural affection and people are even without that. Families are torn apart by sin, even Christian ones, and if not, very oppressed and we need very much to kiss the Son, by and through the Spirit, and He knows your heart, so you can forget the Judas kiss. we really need His Spirit to help us rest, and to be both His power and peace.
I am always amazed at how Jesus how refrained from arguing and that He was still calling Judas friend, even in the Garden of Gethsemane. We, like the disciples, and especially as God’s beloved sons and daughters, should know that we are no longer servants if we are taught about and glorify the Father with our obedience. Jesus gave him every chance.
Let’s look at another example, Mary of Bethany, no one at Simon’s house gave Jesus water for His feet or greeted Him with a kiss, but Mary anointed Him from the alabaster box, and cried and kissed His feet.
You gave me no kiss, but she, since the time I came in, has not ceased to kiss my feet. Luke 7:45 WEB
The Holy Spirit is the kiss and the wine in Song of Solomon, the kisses are tender and passionate but in a much more personal and loving way than mere physical attraction. He is the kiss of peace, shalom in Hebrew, eirene in Greek, pax in Latin.
Any way you say it, He has given us His peace as gift, John 14:27 and we have to receive that gift. Lord we receive your gift of peace today and every day, and I pray my readers are led by your Spirit into His rest, that you are speaking peace and calm to the storms of life, and that we are kissed with your peace.
Judas had a choice, and He betrayed Jesus with kiss, should you feel the burning on you lips like Isaiah or just the slightest brush across them as light as an angel feather, may He kiss you with His Spirit and His peace.
