Bearing Fruit? Taste And See.

I can ask you just to read John 15, but I will give a few verses. Jesus talks about the vine and branches, and bearing fruit, so are we?

If you remain in Me and My words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.  This is to My Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, proving yourselves to be My disciples. As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you. Remain in My love. Verses 7-9.

You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. John 15:15, I like the New Living on this, simply for the term lasting fruit, it is the same as abide.

At the start of the chapter Jesus talks about being the vine, pruning and bearing fruit. Nobody likes pruning but we have to have our rough edges cut off in order to be fruitful as a believer. For years, I thought I chose Him, though I had read this, now I know He chose me.

And while people consider themselves disciples, He goes on to call them friends, no longer servants as He has taught them what the Father said. Why? For the father’s glory. If God gets the glory we will be blessed and bear lots of lasting fruit. He even says He appoints us to bear fruit. And we won’t be cut off.

Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.  Matthew 3:8

I like to tell people to keep a repentant heart, which lines up with grace, we should not want to go on sinning or struggle against it, we should not trample His grace through willful sin but we have an advocate when we do sin. Keeping a repentant heart is helpful, allowing Him to guard it and keeping us in check, it will keep us from being fearful of receiving Communion.

Our fruit can be our family or friends, souls won to Christ, even our work, though salvation is a gift not through works,  He appoints things He would have us do, from His heart to ours. Fruit can be a kind word, a helping hand, it is my writing this blog, and encouraging you. This Georgia peach has a lot of peaches to her credit and all for His glory. And I pray He blesses you and heals you, delivers you, and that you know Him and bear fruit. It doesn’t have to be peaches.

You will know them by their fruit. Matthew 7:16

…the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22,23

You know the phrase about a bad apple spoiling the bushel, I had that happen with potatoes, and yes, they are vegetables but the principle is the same in the natural and spiritual. It is the same with apples, bananas or tomatoes and potatoes. One will spoil another, and the whole lot of them.

Jesus goes on to say that good trees produce good fruit and bad, you get the idea. It is why we should choose our friends wisely.

Do not be deceived: “Bad company corrupts good morals. 1 Corinthians 15:33

I sure hope this helps you to taste and see His goodness from Psalm 34:8 And that you take a moment to think about what your fruit may be.
