A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver. Proverbs 25:11
I know, it’s a candle but the golden shape to the right could be the apple, with a little insight. Funny, the verse isn’t referring to apples at all, and pictures of silver. It has a reference to jewelry. You might not have known that, right.
So, I guess you could say a word fitly spoken would be like a gold or silver necklace or ring with a diamond. And even it were only sweet apples of gold in a sterling silver compote, it is a good comparison.
Words are so important, they can create, like God calling in existence light. Romans 4:17, says He calls the dead to life, we were ” dead ” spiritually as sinners, but we don’t have to stay that way, we must walk in the light of His love and speak life and peace to ourselves and others, though not all will receive.
Encouragement can never be underestimated. A good comment will keep me blogging right on, though I would anyway because I can share Jesus. It’s nice to hear. While we are limited, He isn’t, which is why we should speak His words over our lives. And words that are fitly spoken.
We are all guilty of careless, thoughtless words. Even angry or mean ones. The Lord is forgiving and we are under grace. But our words can either be bitter or sweet, they should spring up from the Holy Spirit and from the rivers of living water, as believers. But some are offended by correction, and the Spirit will correct and discipline.
Many just speak without thought which is foolish, you can sow the wind and reap the whirlwind. I don’t even think that people give that much thought or assign that much power to their words. And if you do, people will criticize you, condemn you, even accuse you, but God knows your heart when you are following the Spirit’s lead.
Our visual today is apples of gold, taste sweet words, the goodness of God. And in the opposite, bitter and rotten apples, poisoned by evil tongues. Which would we rather eat? Apples of gold? Easy choice.
God speaks love and peace, joy and all good things. We have a choice of life and death , blessings and curses. Choose life and apples of gold.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruits.
