Taste and see was a good idea my mother suggested to get us started into the holiday season, and refresh our hearts and minds on God’s goodness, this will be our base verse for the month, though we will get into lots of topics, perhaps even feasts, though the high holy Jewish feasts are once again over for the fall.
We will talk about watching our words and what it really means to taste, as most things in the Bible, is in analogy of the spiritual as to the natural. Tasting is another metaphor for enjoying God’s goodness. Who doesn’t enjoy a good meal and good company?
And who is better company than Jesus? I always want Him at my table, but sometimes, I do eat at my desk or on the run, don’t we all?
Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the man / woman who takes refuge in Him! Psalm 34:8
We can by the Spirit, literally taste the goodness of God, by ingesting and digesting His Word. You know those verses where Daniel and John eat scrolls or little books, it is the same thing. And we are blessed when we take refuge in Him and those words, because as believers, we have a dwelling place in the shadow of the Most High God, and we need that protection from anything and anyone who would do us harm.
As you may or may not know, I have been giving visuals to help us picture the topic of the post. I know people are busy in this season, but don’t let that stop you from resting and enjoying His peace. What I will do today is ask some questions, you can answer now or save them for later.
How have you tasted God’s goodness?
How have you been blessed?
How do you find refuge in Him?
I will give you my answers.
I have tasted His goodness through His love and gifts to me, through love and writing, and the healing He has brought to my life.
I have been blessed to be able to share His love, to know His grace, to have Him restore my soul and family.
I literally hide in Him everyday, all day. He saved my life in 2012, and no doubt lots of times I was unaware. I stay under the shadow of His wings and take refuge in His eternal life, even walking through valleys that have been staring me down with the specter and shadow of death. He is my hiding place.
So let’s get into some verses this month, and some about thanksgiving too, but we are focusing on the taste of God’s goodness, and believe me He has been sweet, and still is.
