While God wasn’t interested in sacrifices and offerings and wanted obedience from His children, there is still the fact that as a believer, we have receive the offering of Christ. We are asked to be an offering in return Let’s look at the Word and see how we are expected to a living sacrifice.
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. ( or reasonable service ) Romans 12:1
Paul, often describes himself as a slave, servant or prisoner of Jesus Christ, look what a major turn around he had. Now, we are not in bondage or servitude in the same sense of the word, but we are accountable for our actions, and when we have believed, we should not be slaves to sin but hearers of His Word, and in obedience to Him out of love and respect. We are sons and daughters, He loves us like He loved Jesus.
We have been crucified with Him if we have believed, our spirits are alive in Him and like Him, we are to be presented before God. a living sacrifice. He wants us to be holy. We are accountable for what we say and do, and even do not do, sins of ommissions. Only Jesus, could make us righteous, holy, sanctified, and all for the Father’s glory.
How then are we a living sacrifice? By obedience, not continuing in willful sin. We are not to sin with our words or deeds, with lies or deceit. We are to be loving and forgiving and not hold grudges and retain the sins of others. We have to renew our minds in Christ and refresh ourselves daily in the Spirit.
We are to walk in His light, to let His light and love shine on us, in us and through us. It is spiritual worship, developing an intimacy with Him. We should be reflecting His love in our families, churches, and especially marriages. God designed marriage as a holy union between a man and woman. Having fatherly strength, and motherly love, He created both.
We are not to get into adultery or immorality. Believers should be aware of the pitfalls of that sin. If you are a believer and need help to break those sinful cycles or any kind, I pray you receive His deliverance if you submit to the Spirit and seek forgiveness. He is not trying to condemn but convict and bring you to repentance, even as a believer, willful sin will destroy your walk with God and your life, whether you think so are not.
Bottom line, He is coming for a glorious and spotless bride, a figurative term for the church, as I said God has the qualities of both men and women, yet the world has rejected a lot of the morality that was once taught, as hate. But let me assure you, it is not hate that makes Him admonish you but love, and love that He sent His holy and beloved Son to redeem you.
You, as a believer, cost Him everything, you weren’t even bought with silver or gold, redeemed is like ransomed, look what He paid with, His life, He left the comfort of heaven, not wanting us to perish. So isn’t it reasonable for Him to ask you to offer yourself, a living sacrifice, it is your spiritual worship to live a holy and acceptable life before Him. Your love for your husband or wife is worship, His rest is worship, there are many ways to worship Him, not just with prayer or praise.
And not by sacrificing, not by glorifying what is against His Word, doing what you think is right not hearing and obeying the Spirit, you are worshiping. With everything Jesus went through for us, to me at least, it is reasonable to do as He asks. Our visual today is seeing us give ourselves to Jesus, just as we are and watch Him do wonders for us, let’s ask forgiveness and be acceptable sacrifices, worshiping Him.
……Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body. 1 Corinthians 1619,:20
