For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18
People are funny aren’t they? Funny, funny. And funny strange. People will cling to the old rugged cross and that is not a bad thing but they keep Jesus there sometimes and are not walking in the power and authority of a risen Lord, I know I didn’t always, The Holy Spirit whispered to me that I was carrying a wounded Christ once and He was right. I was identifying with a crucified Lord instead of a risen one.
It is great that the Lord told us before His crucifixion, that He would send us a Comforter. And He is our teacher and even prays for us. The powers of a risen Lord is in His Spirit, a lot of ritual and tradition does make His words of no effect. He said it I didn’t.
I have the utmost respect for the cross and enjoy learning about Jewish roots but we do need to see Him, especially, as we near the end of the age and head to eternity, as the power of God. People who do not have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus and are not obedient to the Spirit, do see it as foolishness.
Sometimes, other Christians will see it as foolishness, operating is spiritual gifts, for instance. We can respectfully agree to disagree, I always tell people to read and study for themselves. And I always pray for my readers to be led by the Spirit. I truly want people to experience His love and healing. But I know some will not.
The message, the love and redemption of the cross is foolishness to people who are perishing in sin, darkness, even though His grace abounds around them, should they believe. To many, it is foolishness because they feel their prayers were not answered.
Did you believe? Forgive? Expect it? Ask amiss or are you even a believer? God can answer prayers, heal and save all at once. Some prayers are not answered, but are for a better time. Some things we just are not wise enough to discern, He does let people die who are weak and tired in His mercy. It doesn’t have to be that way, but sometimes it is.
Does our faith make us whole and we go in peace or are we always questioning, doubting or not believing or not discerning rightly dividing the Word, do people even study? Do they really know what it says? I know people who know very little thinking you go to heaven and sit on a cloud with a harp, people who have been to church, not familiar with Scripture. God wants to draw you deeper, for you not to perish for lack of knowledge like the foolish and unbelieving.
Cleanliness is next to godliness in not in the Bible but the skin of your teeth is. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread, isn’t there, it is from a poem, but worth your weight in gold is. See what I mean, don’t ever just take someone’s word, they may not know.
Christians may appear foolish to some, as for me, I am glad He is saving me from every little thing and all the big ones, anything I can think of not just not going to hell. Salvation is so much more, healing, deliverance, protection, angels and His peace. I am glad, thankful for the message of the cross and that it is the power of God, crushing the enemy, destroying him with the brightness of His coming.
Are you foolish? Or wise enough to believe, even if some think that is foolish?
