( Pray ) For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 1 Timothy 2:2
We are to pray for leaders, even ones we may not always agree with. For this reason. They need prayers too. And not just what we would want them to do but to know His peace and love, but we must not try to be in control but let God do it. It will be so nice when Jesus comes to reign. of course, Timothy has other verses about women learning quiet and full submission, yes, to God and to the husband who is in line. Women are not doormats, they will submit to real love.
I like this verse from Thessalonians 4 to the Macedonians, aspire to live quietly, to attend to your own matters, and to work with your own hands, as we instructed you. Then you will behave properly toward outsiders, without being dependent on anyone.
It is kind of like the verse about living in peace with others as much as possible some people would rather stir up strife. Not everyone will want peace or quiet, and that is too bad. Because God loves it. even Jesus sought solitude from the crowds and disciples. He had to regroup as a man, refresh His Spirit, even being all powerful, so what about us?
It is imperative for a believer, and especially one that walks in spiritual gifts to have that quiet time with God. You can look up verses with still or silent as well. Quiet is a necessity for enter God’s rest. And to put ignorance to silence. A favorite of mine includes Hebrew root words here that include healing.
Be still and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10,
My soul, be quiet before God, for from Him comes my hope. Psalm 62:5
But all who listen to me will live in peace, untroubled by fear of harm. Proverbs 1:33
If only you could be silent! That’s the wisest thing you could do. Job 13:5
Sometimes, that is the best things for friends to do, just stop giving advice.
But the LORD is in his holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before Him. Habbakuk 2:20
Of course, Jesus silenced the demon and stilled the storm. Sometimes, He just calms the child as it rages. He enjoys time with us in peace and quiet.
We need to know how to quiet our minds.
We need to know how to quiet our hearts.
We need to know how to quiet our souls.
It is something children should know how to do. How to play quietly, not interrupt adults, and I don;t mean the old sen and never heard adage, but there is a time to speak and a time to keep silent, we studies Ecclesiastes 3. This is a healthy part of growing up. Knowing how to nap, having a routine that includes a quiet time can reduce time outs.
It is still about submission, men, women or children, we supposed to submit to God for the enemy to flee. It’s better for him to be tired and tormented than me.
I pray we all learn to be quiet and still, stand in that sacred place of rest, or on the holy ground. Even if we have trouble calming us He can ans will. How are you going to find your quiet time with Jesus?
