I know I have written about Jesus being my best gift ever. Without Him I would have been lost and have been ” lost ” in a lot of ways since, not that you lose your salvation but sometimes you get off track, lose your way, find it hard to navigate the troubled seas and calm the storms of life.
You can hear so much from so many, some well meaning and some just persecution, not rightly dividing the word, false teaching, and you can grow and be hit with spiritual warfare, so yes, He is my best gift through it all, I had the Prince of Peace. But did I have peace, yes and no.
I had peace because if was a gift He gave believers in John 14:27. He was always speaking peace to me, to my heart. But sometimes, the chaos and confusion around me, kept my heart troubled and afraid. that verse was so ingrained into me, that I received it fully and let it replace a heart full of trouble. My best gift? Jesus! And His peace!
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled; do not be afraid. John 14:27
He spoke these words after saying the Holy Spirit would come and teach and remind them what He said. It is the same with us and when we are saved we have a measure of the Spirit, but we can also be baptized in the Spirit. Our relationship with Jesus is built on love and peace. His power is even peace, and the Holy Spirit is very much a part of that.
He knows us because He is in us, and He knows the heart of God and His will for our lives. It will be a lot easier to follow Jesus, if we can just hold our peace and let Him be the one to lead. It is so much better to follow. even if you do lead others. You can’t fix things like He can.
Anything we accomplish for His glory is through Him anyway. He would not have had to choose to give His life. Christmas is a perfect time to give Him your life, to allow the beloved Prince of Peace to gift you with His peace. And in a way, you can give it back to Him, He will be delighted if you receive His peace.
Your child is sick and you pray. His peace.
You have unpaid bills. His peace.
You get a bad report at work or from the doctor. His peace.
The more you receive His peace, the better the outcome of the situation. Even if the worst came, you would still have His peace because He left it to you. And not only is it a gift but an inheritance, He willed it to you. He had to die for you to have it, He had to wear a crown of thorns for our peace of mind, and so many of us don’t have that, do we?
Jesus gave us a wonderful gift of His peace, let’s give Him one in receiving it this season.
He, Himself, is our peace. Ephesians 2:14
