The last word on the cross, in the Greek, tetelestai, translated, finished. The power of that statement echoes through the ages and even all eternity. Jesus had finished what He came to do. He was born to die for us, and now it was complete.
And that’s how He completes, when we begin to realize that it is not all about us but all about Him. He was the sacrifice once and for all. All we have to do is believe. I think we can and perhaps even do, it is just us we sometimes doubt.
But we are His masterpiece, Ephesians 2:10, He even created the works He wanted us to do, even though we are not saved by them. He started a work in us and plans to finish it. And He really doesn’t even need our help to do it.
Let’s look to Jesus this fall and be thankful. For His grace. His peace and His rest. The one who loved us most and best has good plans, more than we could ever ask or imagine. He is our High Priest, and was and still is our sacrifice forever as a believer, and will one day take us with Him.
He is the author and finisher of faith, in Hebrews 12:2. It was finished then and is finished now. Lets compare the verses, and God’s rest, we are all trying to fight the fight of faith and finish the race but are we trying too hard? We need the rest of faith in His finished work and to declare Him Lord.
When Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished,” and he bowed His head and gave up His Spirit. John 19:30 Compare that to Matthew 27:34, He will not take that drink, but the pain instead.
For we who have believed enter that rest, as He has said, “As I swore in my wrath, ‘They shall not enter my rest,’” although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. Hebrews 4:3
….looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2
You will read different translations as author, pioneer, founder. In other words He started it and will finish it or complete it in us, as we keep looking to Him and not ourselves. Will He finish it in the fall?
I hope this helps you to see what He did for us, and look to Him, I know it helps me to remember, it is not all about me, He finished it and even mentions it Revelation that it is and He is the Alpha and Omega, it is finished.
