Holy Spirit, Blessed Assurance.

The words to the song Blessed Assurance, resonated from the crusade platforms of long ago and are just as much in effect today. Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine. What about this blessed assurance? We know that He promised us eternal life for our souls at the moment of salvation, and sealed us with His Spirit, Ephesians 4:30. And we have learned that salvation is so much more than not being lost for eternity.

Jesus promised healing, not only for our bodies, but for our minds and hearts, our very souls if we would submit our will to His and listen to His voice and not the ways of the world or the evil that is beset upon us nor the accusing of the brethren. He gave us so many promises, and we know that Jesus was God in the flesh and that God cannot lie. This is assurance.

He tasted death for me He destroyed the devil who had the power of death. He delivered me from the fear of death and bondage. Hebrews 2:9, 14, 15

He washed my body with pure water. Hebrews 10:22, Ephesians 5:26

The same Spirit that raised Him from the dead now lives in me and that Spirit will quicken my mortal body. Romans 8:11 Now, that is Holy Spirit, blessed assurance.

He has given me His Name and has put all things under my feet. Ephesians 1:21, 22

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Philippians 4:13 These are but a few of the many provisions and promises, the angel protection of Psalm 91, the healing of Isaiah 53, and the right way to think and renew our minds, Phillipians 4:8. So what about our blessed assurance?

From the New Living Translation, Hebrews 11:1, Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see.

For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance that what we said was true. And you know of our concern for you from the way we lived when we were with you. 1 Thessalonians 1:5

I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ Himself. Colossians 2:2, This time the word confidence is assurance in other versions.

So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Hebrews 10:35 In this verse, also from the NLT uses confident for assurance and so do many other verses. Our confidence is not in us, nor our abilities but in His, and His promises. Likewise our assurance is not in us, what we do or don’t do, it was in His finished work, His saving us by grace, that He will never leave, and complete good work He has planned for our lives.

This is the kind of assurance that gives us confidence and boldness, the Greek word is parresia, So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most. Hebrews 4:16, He gives us the assurance that we can come boldly to the throne.

Little children, let us love not in word and speech, but in action and truth. And by this we will know that we belong to the truth, and will assure our hearts in His presence: If our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts, and He knows all things. I John 3:19,20, here again our hearts are being assured. He is greater than our hearts that do want to condemn us sometimes.

The Hebrew word for assure is azda, az -zawd, from the Aramaic. Also ashash, to found or establish. And qayyam, phonetic, kah-yawm, meaning enduring. Made sure; safe; insured; certain; indubitable; not doubting; bold to excess. Other definitions, and Jesus even says that He assures we get to heaven by being born of the water and Spirit.

So we can rest assured that Jesus has us covered, our best interest at heart, and we need His peace in ours, He left it for us, most assuredly, in John 14:27 Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine. In the morning, I am assured and in the evening, awake or asleep He is mine, my peace and my blessed assurance. Holy Spirit sealed with blessed assurance. Rebecca Jones / public domain
