Holy Spirit, Stirred Not Shaken.

It has been a hot summer! And  I suppose the phrase is really shaken not stirred. I don’t really know, I’m not a drinker of anything but Coke Zero, tea and water. A good milkshake might do. But this is just a play on words. I have seen a few martinis shaken in the movies though. But I am more qualified to share the Word.

Timothy has to be reminded this way,  ” For this cause, I remind you that you should stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” 2 Timothy 1:6 Timothy, had the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. And needed a reminder to stir His gift. While back in Judges 13:25, the Spirit began to stir Samson, the Holy Spirit only came upon people then, Jesus had not been crucified.

The crippled man says in John 5:7 to Jesus, He has no one to help Him in when the waters were stirred, water represents the Spirit, He did not see the miracle in front of Him. Hebrews 10:24 tells us to consider how to stir one another to love and good works.

David is stirred by a song, or beautiful words and will recite a poem to the king, his tongue is the pen of a ready writer. Psalm 45:1, Proverbs 16:28 says gossip and wicked people stir up trouble, break apart friends, and Psalm 140:2 say people devise evil in their hearts and stir war.

Now you should see what should stir our spirits and what to avoid. Now what about shaken? Haggai 2:6,7 says the Lord in a little while, is about to shake heaven and earth. Psalm 112:6 says the righteous will never be shaken.

2 Thessalonians 2:2 warns us concerning the Rapture or catching away, not to be quickly shaken in mind or alarmed, either by a spirit or a spoken word, or a letter seeming to be from us, to the effect that the day of the Lord has come. It goes on to say that the man of sin will be revealed, the Great Tribulation and then the day of the Lord at His Second Coming, which I believe are two different events. Some do teach we are already in it, but the Bible says no. Just be sure you are a believer and ready when He comes.

Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe. Hebrews 12:28. This is true of believers we should not be so easily shaken in our faith. Let’s back up and remember, we are to know His voice and not follow another, but the voice of the Holy Spirit.

See that you do not refuse Him who is speaking. For if they did not escape when they refused Him who warned them on earth, much less will we escape if we reject Him who warns from heaven. At that time His voice shook the earth, but now He has promised, Once more I will shake not only the earth, but heaven as well. Hebrews 12:25, 26.

We are living in that time when faith is necessary and yet being challenged by so many, we must obey His voice from heaven, Jesus, and continue in His way or how else will we escape the shaking if we are not stirred. Rebecca Jones / Robbins Flores, thanks.

  1. I love your play on this phrase. And I love that the Lord promises to take care of us through everything. Even when we *feel* like we are being shaken, we are not. We are standing on firm ground.
